Transform your Hanukkah with unique and handmade menorah built with a naturally white clay designed to withstand the stresses of a raku firing. The smoke trapped in the crackle glaze and bases of each hut adds to the character and authenticity of village life. The smoke and raku firing technique add to the already unique nature of each piece being hand built. No two huts are the same.
Add fun and life to your holiday celebration this year with hand made series and unique design. The hand painted roofs brings character and color to the festival of lights. See the artists hand prints in the clay and the artists mark inside each of the houses.
Bring the huts together in many different combinations and arrangements to suit your individual taste and style. Group them in a line or bunch. Only put the huts out that you need for the number of candles needed for the night, or have them all out on display. The choice is yours.
Smaller huts are approximately 3 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" tall. Shamus is approximately 4 1/2" wide and 4 1/2" tall. Indents in the tops of the huts serve to hold the candles.
These statement pieces can be displayed year round dispersed as accent pieces with no indication as to their true purpose. This series was inspired by Laurence Gavron's work to document the lost Jews of Senegal. Today more than ever the artist believes we need to think about the world as a whole, inclusively, and with a focus on peace and understanding. This is our way to include these lost Jews, even if the rabbinical authorities do not.
Instructions:
Celebrate the holiday of lights with mini candles or 5 1/2" candles. Huts support candles with bases up to 8mm. Simply melt the base of the candle slightly to secure the candle to the top of the hut.
Wax can be easily removed by placing the huts into the freezer, making it easier to chip the wax off the hut.
